Slinger-NVQ: What You Will Learn

PRACTICAL PART: The assessment process consists in 2 - 3 site visits performed by one of our assessors at your place to perform direct observation as well as collect workplace evidences that will cover the criteria of the qualification. This could include - but not limited to - method statements and risk assessments, lift plans, permits of work, installation drawings, specifications for materials or tools used, pre-use inspections; any kind of similar document can be used by the assessor in documenting your competence.

THEORETICAL PART: The assessment will include a section of the evaluation of the job knowledge. This can be completed either in writing - by answering the standard questionnaire (approx 45 questions) - or by having a recorded conversation with the assessor on topics such as planning of the works, works implied by the lifting process, lifting, quality checks as well as general H&S

Slinger-NVQ: Course content

The mandatory units of this qualification are:

✓ Unit 1 - Attaching and Preparing Suspended Loads for Movement Using Lifting Accessories in the Workplace
✓ Unit 2 - Guiding, Positioning and Placing Suspended Loads in the Workplace
✓ Unit 3 - Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
✓ Unit 4 - Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace

Slinger-NVQ: Who is this for?

This qualification is for those learners who work in, or who want to work in, the area of lifting operations in the construction sector. The certification of the competence would help in getting further work and acquire an experienced worker CSCS card through either of the official recognised industry schemes.

Slinger-NVQ: Duration

There is no official indication on how long the assessment process should take - there is a certain number of GUIDED learning hours to be found in the qualification specification of the awarding body – please see PDF document.

Typically, the assessment process takes 2 – 3 months, after which the assessor should be in the position to finalise the observation report and close out the coverage of all criteria. This along with the IQA and potential EQA process for the issuing of the diploma should not exceed an additional period of 2 – 3 weeks.

Slinger-NVQ: What will I get?

Upon enrolment, you become eligible to extend the competence card you hold for an additional period of 1 year.
You then should expect a fair assessment and extensive support from the assessment team through out the process as well as a enjoyable meetings where you will get to prove your competence as well as receive guidance on how to achieve those elements that still require development.
On completion - you will become eligible to apply for a blue competence card through either of the official recognised industry schemes

Slinger-NVQ: Requirements

✓ To be able to undertake for this qualification learners must be 16+ and bring along valid ID (Passport, Driving license or ID card) .
✓ Have a good understanding of English
✓ To be experienced with lifting operations for a significant amount of time within construction industry; a competence card with the recognised awarding bodies is not a must, but provides a considerable advantage
